October 2009 : We hope everyone is doing well! We've been busy these last couple of months. Erick is having a blast in Kindergarten. He is one busy boy, but is really loving it - PE, computer, music, art, and his teacher Mrs. Sandoval is great!

We had a fun halloween with Granny in town. As you can see by the pictures Erick was a cowboy sherrif and Granny was a cowgirl! They had a great time! Nana started the cowboy costume with the outfit and hat, mom found the boots and Granny had the finishing touches with spurs, a rope, bandana and toy guns (that used to be Dad's and Uncle Arlie's). Russell was our little turtle, and he was cute and slow walking to the doors trick-or-treating, so it was a very fitting costume. Big brother showed Russell the ropes and Russell had NO problem going to the door to get candy.

We visited Sea World a couple of times during their Howl-o-Scream event. They had the park decorated for the season and even had some pretty scary things to see. You can see from the pictures that we got to share some Sea World fun with our dear friend Lily!

There are many pictures of Russell in his Steelers hat. This was actually a hand-me-down from big brother. Russell insists on putting this on EVERY morning when he gets up. Of course mom has NO problem with that but dad (BIG Dallas Cowboys Fan) says that it's only temporary. Erick has definitely made his dad proud and is more than happy to root for the Cowboys!!

The holidays are quickly approaching and we have a busy schedule planned, but we enjoy to have TONS of holiday fun! We'll be taking off to Albuquerque for Thanksgiving in less than 3 weeks...impossible to believe!

We hope you are all doing well! Enjoy the photos! These boys are sure growing up quickly!!
Love always,
Michelle, Gordon, Erick and Russell

Poteet Website Update August 2009 : It’s hard to believe that Erick will be starting Kindergarten on Monday! The last 5 ½ years have flown by, that’s for sure.

You’ll be able to tell from the pictures though that we had (and are still having) a lot of fun this Summer!

We took a road trip to Albuquerque to visit Granny, Papa Pete, Auntie ‘Laine, the GG’s, Grandpa Horace and Grandma Joy, Uncle Arlie. It was a great trip. Granny has a wonderful neighbor who let her borrow the awesome swimming pool and slide for the backyard. The weather was awesome! So much cooler than we have been this summer in San Antonio. We went to the mountains for a family picnic and did some exploring. Erick had a great time on the Tram. He doesn’t remember, but his first time on the tram was when he was 3 months old – with Auntie Megan and Uncle Ben! Our ABQ trip was full of good visiting and good food!

After our ABQ trip we turned around (5 days later) and went to Oklahoma to visit ‘Uncle’ Aaron and ‘Aunt’ Nicole! We had a great time! We spent one day out on the lake. Erick got to ride in the tube by himself and was THRILLED! Russell loved the boat and the water. I think we definitely have two fish!! We went to Incredible Pizza. You can even see “the band” playing “Rock Star” on the Playstation. ‘Uncle’ Aaron even got a Wii, so Erick showed him the ropes on that! What a great relaxing trip!

We’ve managed quite a few trips to Sea World the last two weeks. It’s been so hot here (100’s) that the water park has been giving us a lot of relief! We are truly spoiled living less than 5 minutes away!

We met Erick’s teacher this week, Mrs. Sandoval. She seems great and I know we’re all excited for this new adventure ahead! Erick is extremely excited and can’t wait to see everything at the school. Russell is doing great! His vocabulary is growing on a daily basis. He's had a rough couple of weeks as he just cut 4 molars. Two one week and then two the next. He's a trooper and seemed to do pretty well.

That’s what the Poteet’s have been doing. We have been keeping busy, and trying to keep cool! Good luck to those starting school in the coming weeks (teachers and students).

Love always,
Michelle, Gordon, Erick and Russell

June 2009 : Happy Summer!

We hope you are all staying cool somehow! We've already been having triple digit temps here in South Texas...and it's only June. Our hottest months are yet to come! We've been staying cool though with A LOT of pool time!

Erick is on our neighborhood swim team and he's doing great. At the end of April there was no way he could swim the length of the pool. Now...he's swimming freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke at his swim meets. He's also learning the butterfly stroke, which I must say is a challenging one. We're really proud of him. Needless to say, he sleeps VERY well at night. We have one more regular meet next week, and then our last meet (Divisional) is a week from Saturday! It's been a crazy two months, but it's been awesome (and so worth it) to see our Erick become a good swimmer!

Russell is busy walking and talking. His new favorite word is "uh-oh" and we seem to use this any time we drop things. It's fun to just drop things sometimes, JUST so we can use the word! He keeps us laughing. He knows the names of our neighbors dog and Pa's dogs, but for some reason "Mama" is not in his vocabulary yet! Haha He LOVES attention, and seems to really enjoy making people laugh and smile! What more could you ask for?

Enjoy the latest Poteet pictures! Have a great summer!
Love always,
Michelle, Gordon, Erick and Russell

May 2009 : Hello! Hope you are all doing well!

It’s been a busy month. We had a great trip to PA at the beginning of April. We had a chance to visit with lots of family (grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins…). Russell was baptized while we were there by Rev. Boos, who baptized Michelle 32 years ago. It was a very special occasion, and we were so happy to share it with so much family.

Erick has been working hard in swim lessons for the past two weeks. We have lessons this week and than possibly a short break. It’s a “no floatie” summer! Erick is excited and is ready to be out in the water on his own. His Pre-K school year will wrap up in a few weeks. His Pre-K graduation will be held on June 5th. It’s hard to believe he will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. He is all registered, and we will find out shortly before school starts who his teacher will be!

Russell (almost 14 months) has decided it is NOW time to start walking. He’s a pretty laid back kind of fellow - unless it’s time to eat, or it’s time for bed – but he took his time on the walking. His crawling skills were very impressive. He could get anywhere in the blink of an eye. He’s also expanding his vocabulary and can just about say “E-wick”. I guess he must hear us calling his brother a lot. Not surprising that’s a word Russell has come to know well! Haha Big brother Erick has also taught Russell to shake his head “no”. Even more entertaining is that Russell does this while keeping his mouth wide open. These boys are very silly! Russell is a HUGE fan of water. He loves tub time and could play in there for hours. More recently though, he’s gotten to go in the wading pool by the big pool in our community. I suspect we’ll have two fish instead of boys by the end of the summer!

It’s been warming up, and the humidity has arrived! More reason to spend time at the pool or the water park! Take care and enjoy the pictures!

March 2009 - Russell turns One! : Happy Spring everyone! We just celebrated Russell's first birthday. His actual birthday was spent in Austin with Granny, Papa, Auntie 'Laine, and cousins Cecily, Reuben and Spencer. We put Russell to work packing the truck for Auntie 'Laine's move to Albuquerque. It was great getting to see everyone, even for just a day! This past Sunday we had a little party for Russell. As you can see by the pictures he has some new fun toys, but more importantly enjoyed a delicious piece of cake!

Russell went in for his one year checkup yesterday. He's doing great! He's 22lbs 12oz and 30 inches tall. He continues to be in the 50th percentile and very healthy. He's taking 1-2 steps on his own sometimes, but knows he can get places quicker if he just crawls. He's been more interested lately in holding a hand and walking so we suspect that he could be on his way to motoring around on two feet here pretty quick.

Erick is doing great! We will be registering him for Kindergarten on April 9th. It's hard to believe he'll be starting Kindergarten in August! Wow! The time is flying! He is now working on math equations in school. This week we are doing subtraction. He loves it!

We'll be headed to PA next week for a visit with family and also Russell's baptism. More pictures to come soon! And we're looking forward to catching up with many of you in person on our visit! Take care!

Love always,
Michelle, Gordon, Erick and Russell

February 2009 : Hello to everyone! I know a lot of you have been experiencing some intense cold weather and if we could send some South Texas weather your way we would. The mild winter we have been having has really given us a lot of opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Not to say we don't do that other times of the year, but come summer...we're just looking for the nearest pool!

Erick decided last month that it was time to take of the training wheels and ride with just two wheels. It seems that 5-year olds have all the answers. Needless to say, he is amazing on his bike. It's as if he just woke up one day and knew he could ride it. He also insists on riding it FAST! So, we have to slow down our bike racer now and then.

Russell is constantly changing. Almost daily he has a new "trick" as we like to call it. Just a couple of weeks ago he decided (overnight) that it was time to walk - with the help of his "Hippo-walker" of course. He is taking the hippo for a walk all the time these days. He's also walking his way around the coffee table, that is of course when he's not eating it. Yes, we seem to have some teeth marks in our coffee table an they're not from the dog! Russell is also trying to compete with Erick on who can not only talk to the most...but the loudest! And when the two start to laugh histerically at each other it's the most amazing thing! You gotta love a baby belly laugh!

We hope you enjoy the latest pictures of our growing boys!!

Christmas 2008 : Russell's first Christmas was great! He enjoyed eating wrapping paper, boxes, tissue paper...and later seemed to find that he actually got some "real" toys! He's doing great! He had his 9 month checkup last week and is 20lbs 8oz and 28 1/2 inches long. He's in the 50th percentile, which is great! No new teeth, but the bottom two are in, and VERY sharp! Haha He pulls himself up on anything and everything. If he's anything like Erick he could be walking within the next month. Yikes!

Erick had a fabulous Christmas! To really see the magic of Christmas through a child's eyes is amazing. The excitement Erick had (and shared) this year about Christmas was so special. The preparations for Santa are always fun. We did talk Erick out of the coffee he wanted to provide Santa and supplied him with a nice cold glass of milke to go with his cookie and fudge!

We are all doing well, and hope the same for you! Best wishes as we start a New Year!

November 2008 : We spent Thanksgiving in Albuquerque this year with lots of family! We enjoyed two turkey dinners, luckily we were able to spread it out across a couple of days. As you can see from the pictures we (especially the boys) had a wonderful time.

It's nearly impossible to believe that Russell is 8 1/2 months. He's crawling, pulling up, and we had to lower his crib mattress to the bottom setting the other day because he is sitting up and pulling to his feet in his crib. He's a talker too. He always has a story to share. He must be competing with his story-telling older brother.

Speaking of...Erick will be 5 this month! He's doing great in his Pre-K class and is already learning to read (sight words). Erick's Fall soccer season ended right before Thanksgiving and we'll be taking a short break until the Spring season starts in April.

We are getting ready for Christmas and excited to celebrate Russell's first Christmas. We hope you are all doing well! Happy Holidays!

October 2008 : Happy Fall everyone! We hope that those who have had hot weather (like us in Texas) and getting a little bit of relief with some cooler fall weather. The boys and I just got back from a trip to Washington DC to visit Nana. As you can see in the pictures we had a great time!

Russell is 7 months...almost impossible to believe. He's up on all fours, rocking back and forth, but hasn't quite made the move to crawling yet. His current choice for moving around is rolling, and boy is he quick. No teeth yet, although the gums definitely give him some trouble now and then. He's a smiley guy and he loves to laugh and play with his big brother. Russell now weighs 19 lbs 4 oz. Very cool considering that Erick weighed 19 lbs 3 oz at 7 months.

Big brother Erick is doing great. Fall soccer season started up at the beginning of October. This is our third season, and it's just so neat to see how well the kids are catching on now. You can really start to see them working together as a team. Erick is extremely busy in school. He has a little bit of homework most nights. Right now we're working on writing our letters, so we have to work on one letter every night. We went to a local pumpkin patch yesteday after school and Erick found the perfect pumpkin for he and his dad to carve this weekend. (We'll have halloween pictures up later).

Happy Halloween to everyone! We hope this update finds you all well! Take care, enjoy the pictures!

September 2008 : It's hard to believe that Russell will be 6 months in a little over a week! And Erick started his Pre-K class - only one year until we start Kindergarten. Where does the time go? I do know that we're doing everything we can to enjoy every second of it. Russell is trying really hard to start crawling. He has the general idea, but can't quite get his mid-section off the ground. He's definitely teething, but we've yet to see any teeth cut through. One of the sweetest things is when you get him out of his crib he reaches both arms out for you and when you pick him up he gives you a great big sqeeze around the neck. Erick is doing great! He loves his new class and he loves his new teacher Ms. Debbie. She's great and I know she's going to push them over the next year, but we're ready. We're working on riding a bike without training wheels. Watch out! He's such a bookworm, so we make a point to hit the library every couple of weeks to get something new to read. We usually have to cut him off at about 15 books....the bag gets too heavy for us to carry!

We had a special visit from my sister (Auntie) in July. It was great to see her (we missed seeing Gunkle Ben) but we were so happy to have Auntie for a long weekend. Of course we took her to our favorite place to eat (or should I say my favorite) Mimi's, along with a trip to see the Riverwalk.

We also got a nice surprise from Nana, she was in town on a short business trip, but we were able to snatch her up for a sleepover at our house. We miss her!

Labor day weekend we got to take a trip to Carlsbad, NM where we met up with Gordon's parents - Granny and Papa Pete. It was so nice to get away and have a little vacation. The boys got lots of loving, and Erick just loves getting to spend the night in Granny and Papa Pete's room (no parents). Haha We had such a wonderful, relaxing time and it was so great to see Bonnie and Pete. Road trips are an adventure. We were really blessed that Erick was such an easy traveler. Russell....well, he's not quite sure that being strapped into his carseat for any length of time is a good idea. But we really can't complain. He would eventually fall (or cry himself) to sleep and would be crashed out for hours.

We hope everything is going well for you all! We're keeping busy, and having lots of fun! Take care!

July 2008 - Russell 4 months : It's hard to believe Russell is already 4 months old. And boy is he growing! He rolled over for the first time this week. Before we know it we'll have a little "Rollie Pollie" on our hands. He's a chatterbox too. He always has a new story to share with us. He loves being talked to, sung to, tickled, you name it. He'll go in next week for his checkup and shots. We suspect he's around 16lbs. A very healthy little "monkey". He's a dream when it comes to bedtime. He can put himself to sleep if he's put down awake. He'll also stay crashed out anywhere from 7 1/2-9 1/2 hours - on a regular basis. Russell is a little fish too! We spent some time this past weekend at our friends house and they have a pool. Russell was all cozy in his new crab floatie and he crashed out (slept) for almost an hour and a 1/2 in the pool with us. He's going to make a great beach bum!

Big brother Erick is doing great! As you can see in some of the pictures he enjoyed swimming - or shall I say jumping - at his friend Lily's pool. He's a little fish. He absolutely loves the water and he's in it every chance he can get. We're scheduling some swim lessons for the beginning of August. He actually jumped in the pool this weekend, swam back to the side and then looked and me and said, "oops, I forgot my floaties". I'm not sure it hit him that he actually swam on his own without them.

We've had a busy few months and a lot of wonderful visits with family and friends. Pappy, Grandma and Great-grandma came in from PA for a few days. Erick kept them very busy putting together puzzle after puzzle. He also introduced them to his train set, which adults seem to have as much playing with as he does. And of course the boys got lots of lovings from all of them.

We also got to enjoy visiting with our great friends, Aaron and Nicole, from Oklahoma. They came in for the long 4th of July weekend. We went and saw "Kung Fu Panda" and enjoyed the fireworks from the side of the road on the 4th. We're planning on heading up to OK next month to spend some time with "Uncle" Aaron and "Aunt" Nicole. The boys (minus Russell) will probably head out on the boat for some water fun. Erick LOVES the boat. He keeps telling us that he's saving all his money so that he can buy us a truck and a boat. Pretty cool that they can have such ambitious goals at 4 years old!!

Take care!

June 2008 - Russell 3 months : It's hard to believe that Russell is 3 months old. He's working on rolling over from his tummy to his back and he's learned how to grab and/or swing his arms to hit his toys. He's quite the little chatter box and carries on cooing conversations with anyone who will listen and coo back.

Erick is doing great! He just spent the weekend building puzzles and playing trains with his Pappy, Grandma and Great-Grandma Moore.

It's been an exciting month. We've had the opportunity to see so much family. We were in Austin at the beginning of the month to celebrate cousin Spencer's high school graduation. Erick got a real treat and headed up a couple of days before us with Granny and Papa Pete. We got to spend time with all of Gordon's family on his mom's side. At the same time Nana was in San Antonio from Washington D.C. for a couple of weeks, so we had fun with her here. We really have been blessed to have gotten some great visiting in with so much family. We'll be having a few more visitors in the next couple of months which we're looking forward to.

Hope the summer is treating you all well!

Russell at 10 weeks : It's hard to believe that our little one is already 2 months old. He went in this week for his 2 month checkup and is doing GREAT! He's 13.5lbs and 23 inches long. He is in the 50th percentile for height and weight. His big brother was a little bigger at this point (not much though).

Erick is wrapping up his Spring soccer season. He has two more soccer games and then we're off until the fall. He seems to enjoy running around more than kicking the ball.....but it still seems fun to him. Erick will be taking swimming lessons this summer so we'll be spending some quality time at the pool, not just for swimming but to cool off in this hot South Texas weather.

Russell is really showing his personality more and more. He follows us with his head and eyes as he watches us move around the room. His little smile and those big blue eyes will just melt your heart. He is a huge fan of the outdoors and seems to find walks in the stroller or just hanging out outside watching big brother ride his bike to be very calming. Mom and dad are impressed with him waking usually once a night to eat. Although when it comes to naptime he feels the need to fight taking a rest.....mom and dad usually win this one though.

We were all spoiled this past week with a wonderful visit from Gordon's mom - Granny. She spent the week making us some fabulous meals, but more importantly loving on her grandsons....and they loved on her back.

We're looking forward to all the visitors we're going to have over the next couple of months. Russell and Erick will enjoy more grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins and friends.

We hope you are all doing great! Take care!

He's cooing a lot and smiling and giggling more each day. He continues to grow and grow. We believe he'll be in his 3-6 month clothes by the time he's about 2 months. He loves tummy time, and has been spending a lot more time awake, just taking in the sights around him. He loves being outside, which is great since we'll be spending quite a bit of time outdoors especially this summer! Erick is doing well. He's adjusting to hearing "hold on one second" or "let me take care of your brother first". Welcome Russell William : Our little bundle of joy arrived on March 16, 2008 at 3:33pm. He was 36w5d, and was ready to come and meet us. He weighed 6lbs 14oz and was 18.5 inches long.
Due to some pre-term labor Gordon's mom had come to town just 2 days before Russell arrived. We all had a feeling it was just a matter of hours....or days at that point. We were blessed to have Bonnie (Granny) in town. She made sure we were all eating good foods, and her extra set of hands was wonderful to have around.
Gordon got to spend the second week of Russell's life at home with us, which was another blessing. It gave us some wonderful time to bond as a family.
As you can see in the pictures of Erick with his brother for the first time, he sure is a proud big brother.
